By acquiring X-ray CT data at two different energy levels and using the DECT tools, one can calculate density and effective atomic number for the sample on a voxel-by-voxel basis.

A characterized materials image that can be considered a rock-typed image is created based on a list of reference materials.

This technology adds value to whole-core CT analysis workflows, by providing the user with actual density information that can be compared with density logs and used for further characterization of rock formations. This enables the user to compare whole-core CT images across multiple formations and wells.


Dual Energy Computed Tomography DECT

The Petrophysics extension provides access to image-based models that permit the simulation of flow and electrical and thermal properties of the sample, including absolute permeability, electrical resistivity, formation factor, capillary pressure, and more. With this information, geologists can link specific depositional environments and structures to associated physical behavior—a key aspect of reservoir quality.


The Core Profile extension facilitates correlated viewing of depth-matched with whole-core CT data, whole-core photos, and petrophysical logs in a single software environment. This module includes an automated core assembler that automatically aligns, stacks, and stitches whole-core data into a single image. The user can then segment and extract a virtual log from this dataset to compare to conventional petrophysical logs.

Core Profile

The Pore Network Flow Extension offers a platform for simulating two-phase flow processes in porous rocks. The pore-space is modeled by a pore network model that is built based on a 3D image of the rock sample. The primary drainage, water flooding and secondary drainage processes can be simulated using the two-phase flow simulation tool. The wettability of the rock-fluid system is modeled by assigning contact angle distributions for each two-phase flow process. The saturation-dependent properties of relative permeability, capillary pressure and resistivity index are calculated for each simulated process.
